Leo Express is taking part in this year’s European Mobility Week, offering free bicycle transport on its regional services in the Orlicko and Podunajsko regions and reporting progress on its ongoing carbon footprint offsetting programme.
Leo Express is taking part in this year’s European Mobility Week, which highlights accessible and sustainable transport for all generations. From 16 to 22 September, the carrier will transport bicycles free of charge on all its regional services in the Orlicko and Podunajsko regions.
Emil Sedlarik, spokesperson for Leo Express, said: “This year’s theme of European Mobility Week is very close to us. Public transport makes sense when it is genuinely accessible to people across generations and can be part of their everyday lives, whether they are travelling to school, work, a doctor’s appointment or for leisure. That is why we want to further encourage more sustainable ways of travelling, and from 16 to 22 September we will transport bicycles free of charge on all our regional services in the Orlicko and Podunajsko regions.”
Discounted fares support accessibility across generations
This year’s European Mobility Week focuses on how to create transport systems accessible to children, young people, adults and seniors, while considering the needs of future generations. Leo Express said it supports this through discounted fares, with children, pupils, students and seniors travelling on its train services within the Czech Republic in Economy Class at a 50 per cent discount. Smile Club members also receive 25 per cent of the full ticket price back in leo credits once their journey is complete, usable towards further tickets or onboard refreshments.
Rail as part of more sustainable mobility
Sustainable mobility is not only about accessibility, with the environmental impact of different transport modes also playing an important role. According to the latest data from the European Environment Agency, rail accounted for only 0.3 per cent of direct greenhouse gas emissions from transport in the EU in 2023.
Leo Express passengers can also voluntarily contribute to offsetting their carbon footprint when purchasing a ticket, by selecting the “CO2 offset” option at the final step of booking. The size of the contribution depends on the specific connection, the number of kilometres travelled and the selected travel class, with the funds collected used to support environmental projects.
In March 2025, Leo Express carried out the fifth tree planting initiative under its carbon footprint offsetting programme, with passengers able to vote on social media for the project the company should support. More than €20,000 has been contributed so far towards planting 202 trees in Czech and Slovak municipalities. Since the beginning of 2026, 24,918 passengers have taken part in the offsetting programme, with their contributions helping to offset 76.2 tonnes of CO2 emissions.
