Major overhaul programme will improve reliability, safety and performance of regional passenger locomotives across Poland’s busiest rail network.

Alstom will carry out a major overhaul of 11 Traxx locomotives for Mazovian Railways, supporting fleet modernisation and long-term operational reliability across Poland’s busiest regional network.
The works, scheduled for 2026 to 2027, will include comprehensive P5 level overhauls, with each locomotive covered by a 19 month warranty following acceptance. The programme is designed to ensure continued high performance as passenger demand grows across the Mazovian region, including the Warsaw metropolitan area.
Comprehensive overhaul to boost performance
The scope of work will involve detailed inspections and repairs of mechanical, electrical and pneumatic systems, alongside diagnostics and component refurbishment in line with technical and operational standards. Bogie overhauls will include non-destructive testing methods such as ultrasonic and magnetic particle inspections, as well as wheelset renewal.
In addition, locomotive bodies will receive new paint coatings, helping extend asset life and maintain fleet condition. The programme will be supported by Alstom’s FlexCare Perform services, aimed at improving availability and reducing lifecycle costs.
Beata Rusinowicz of Alstom said the project will enable Traxx locomotives to continue delivering reliable service for many years, highlighting their growing role in Poland’s rail sector.
Traxx locomotives are widely used across Europe for both passenger and freight operations, offering modular configurations and energy-efficient performance. More than 100 units are currently in service across Poland, with additional deliveries expected in the coming months.
Robert Stępień of Mazovian Railways noted that the overhaul programme will support safety and passenger comfort, as the operator continues to invest in both new and existing rolling stock to meet rising demand.
