Hitachi Rail and PT Softorb Technology Indonesia will upgrade automatic fare collection across MRT Jakarta’s 13 Phase 1 stations under a new contract.
Hitachi Rail, working in partnership with PT Softorb Technology Indonesia, has been awarded a contract by PT Mass Rapid Transit Jakarta (Perseroda) to modernise the fare collection system across the 13 existing stations on MRT Jakarta’s Phase 1 line. The CP111 contract covers the full development and performance improvement of the network’s Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) system.
More than 200 devices will be replaced under the agreement, with new single-target readers installed at AFC gates to accept multiple ticket types and to integrate with a new account-based ticketing system. Hitachi Rail said the upgrade would create a fully connected, future-ready fare collection network for Indonesia’s capital city.
Expanded payment options for passengers
The modernised system is intended to improve reliability and operational efficiency while delivering a smoother passenger experience. Once complete, the upgraded AFC system will support seamless fare processing and interoperability across a fully integrated transport network in Jakarta. Passengers will be able to use an expanded range of payment options, including EMV contactless bank cards, QR-based e-wallets, prepaid bank cards, paper tickets and mobile QR tickets. Hitachi Rail said the work would be carried out without disrupting daily operations.

Hitachi Rail said the partnership aims to set a new benchmark for smart mobility in Jakarta as the city continues to expand its integrated public transport network.
