In this month’s episode of The Right Track, Editor Elizabeth Jordan spoke to Serge Maillet, Country Segment Manager AU/NZ – Industrial Networks & Cybersecurity at Siemens Digital Industries (DT) and Bryan Lai, Rail Systems Interface & Integration Manager at DT Infrastructure about their project in Victoria, Australia.
This podcast highlights the Warrnambool Line project in Victoria as a successful example of rail modernization. This project, involving Siemens and DT Infrastructure, improved the signalling system and overall network, leading to increased capacity, safety, and passenger satisfaction.
At the heart of the Warrnambool line upgrade project are over 200 Siemens RUGGEDCOM devices. These network devices integrate and unify the entire signaling and train control network. The link with over 2000 Siemens Clearguard axle counting systems, creating a seamless flow of information.
The discussion began with the general challenges faced by the rail industry: sustainability, digtalisation and signalling reliability. Next we discuss the factors involved in a project in Australia, from climate impact to tourist traffic. Finally, Bryan and Serge explain the importance of a functional partnership to achieve the best results in rail projects.
