Alstom and Export Development Canada have renewed their Sustainable Corporate Partnership agreement for a further three years, extending a collaboration first established in 2023.

The agreement, which will remain in place until 2029, provides a framework for supporting Canadian economic growth, export development and the expansion of sustainable rail transportation projects in international markets.

The renewed partnership combines Alstom’s expertise in rail technology and mobility solutions with EDC’s financial services, export support and global market network. Together, the organisations aim to help deliver low carbon transport projects while creating new opportunities for Canadian businesses.

Alstom and EDC strengthen support for rail exports

Under the agreement, both organisations will explore ways to support large-scale transport projects that maximise Canadian participation, including future high-speed rail opportunities and other major infrastructure programmes.

The partnership will also focus on supporting small and medium-sized enterprises within Canada’s rail supply chain, helping local businesses access international opportunities and expand export activity.

In addition, Alstom and EDC intend to collaborate on initiatives that promote inclusion, diversity and community development, including support for Indigenous procurement programmes.

Maninder Sidhu said the agreement reinforces Canada’s position as a leader in low carbon rail innovation while creating opportunities for Canadian expertise and technology to reach international markets.

The partnership forms part of EDC’s Global Corporate Partnerships programme, which works with multinational organisations that maintain a significant Canadian presence and operate in sectors with strong international growth potential.

Sven List said the collaboration would help Canadian suppliers grow internationally while supporting sustainable infrastructure projects around the world.

Alstom maintains a substantial presence in Canada, with its Americas regional headquarters located in the Greater Montreal Area. The company continues to invest in manufacturing, research and development, and export capabilities across the country.

Michael Keroullé said the partnership reflects Canada’s importance as a strategic hub for sustainable mobility and will help accelerate the deployment of advanced rail technologies globally.

Bernard Delpit added that the agreement strengthens the financial platform supporting major international rail projects while reinforcing the relationship between two globally focused organisations.

The renewed partnership is expected to support future investment in electrification, green propulsion technologies and sustainable rail infrastructure, aligning with the environmental and economic objectives of both organisations.
