For Global Railway Review’s latest Track Insight: Talent, QTS Group discusses its pivotal role in fostering talent through comprehensive training and development programs within the rail industry.

National rail contractor, QTS Group, has marked the 15th anniversary of its esteemed training arm, QTS Training.

For a decade and a half, QTS Training has been at the forefront of delivering high-quality, innovative training solutions to equip countless individuals with the knowledge and skills necessary to excel in the rail industry.

To commemorate its 15th anniversary, QTS Training hosted celebration activities and provided giveaways to candidates at each of its three training centres in Lanarkshire, Nottinghamshire and West Yorkshire.

Since its inception in 2009, QTS Training has continuously evolved, expanding its offerings and earning accreditation from esteemed organisations including IRATA, NSAR, CITB, SQA, City & Guilds, MPAwards, and Nuco. In 2024, it also celebrated the retention of its Gold rating from NSAR for all three assured elements, Delivery, Compliance and Premises, cementing the business as one of the leading providers of rail training in the UK.

QTS Training has witnessed substantial growth, with the number of candidates being trained each year growing over the past 10 years, from 1848 in 2013 to 9786 in 2023.  As a result, the company has increased its number of trainers, now having seven specialists based in Scotland and a further three in England. Two training centres were also opened in England to accommodate the growing demand for its training services.

The construction of the bespoke IRATA Rope Access training centre underscores QTS Training’s dedication to providing cutting-edge facilities to support practical learning experiences. Additionally, the inception of the QTS Rail Skills Academy has played a pivotal role in nurturing young talent and bridging skill gaps in the industry.
