MASTERIS, the SNCF Voyageurs subsidiary that supplies rail maintenance and engineering expertise to operators and transport authorities, has set out plans to grow the share of its revenue earned outside the SNCF Group from 20% to 40% by 2030, with a longer-term ambition of reaching 90%. The company unveiled its international growth strategy at InnoTrans in Berlin on Wednesday 23 September 2026.

Founded in 2009, MASTERIS is SNCF Voyageurs’ dedicated business development arm for rail maintenance and engineering, acting as a single point of entry to the Group’s know-how for rail-sector stakeholders. Its offer combines a tailored consulting approach, an industrial system, integrated engineering, a lifecycle approach to rolling stock and the operational experience of a rail operator.

Ageing fleets are reshaping the maintenance market

SNCF Voyageurs said growing demand for rail travel and the need to renew ageing rolling stock are making the rolling stock maintenance market increasingly structured and competitive, creating a strategic growth opportunity for MASTERIS in France and internationally.

Already present in Luxembourg, Germany, Morocco, Ireland, Italy, Belgium and the United Kingdom, MASTERIS said it is entering a new phase of development, accelerating its roll-out beyond its historical footprint to scale up commercially, industrially and geographically. The company reported revenue of more than €630 million in 2025, with 150 clients in 12 countries, and said it draws on one of Europe’s largest rail industrial networks: 17,000 rolling stock units maintained each year, 9,700 employees and 10 industrial Technicentres.

“Our ambition is to turn the industrial expertise developed within SNCF Voyageurs Matériel into a genuine engine of growth. Our experience, which is unique in the world, enables us to address each challenge facing rail industry players today.”

Rémi Peltier, CEO of MASTERIS, said the company had become a strategic partner to operators internationally, citing work with Deutsche Bahn, Transdev, RATP Dev, CFL and SNCB, among others, thanks to its expertise across multiple manufacturers, fleet types and operational contexts. He explained that the company’s strength lies in adapting that experience to each client’s specific operational, technical and economic circumstances.
