Polish State Railways has appointed a contractor to deliver a modern station at Opoczno Południe, improving accessibility, passenger comfort and connectivity on one of Poland’s busiest rail corridors.
Polish State Railways (PKP) has awarded the contract to design and build a new railway station at Opoczno Południe, marking the next stage in plans to improve passenger facilities on Poland’s Central Railway Line.
Following a competitive tender process, Wimaks Toczyłowski Sp. k. was selected as the preferred contractor. The agreement was signed on 23 July, with construction expected to be completed during the first half of 2028.
The investment will provide the station with its first dedicated station building, replacing the current arrangement where passengers have no permanent indoor facilities. The project aims to create a modern, safe and fully accessible environment for all travellers, including passengers with reduced mobility, older people, families with children and those travelling with large luggage.
New facilities for growing passenger demand
The new station will feature a passenger service area incorporating a waiting room, public toilets, seating, passenger information systems and a vending machine for food and drinks. The building will also include modern security and monitoring systems alongside environmentally friendly technologies.
External works will create additional parking spaces, including dedicated bays for disabled users and Kiss & Ride facilities, while shelters, benches and waste bins will also be installed to improve the surrounding public space.
Dariusz Klimczak, Poland’s Minister of Infrastructure, said the station plays an important role on the Central Railway Line, connecting Warsaw with southern metropolitan areas while supporting increasing levels of long-distance rail traffic. He added that the project complements the 160 parking spaces previously delivered at the station by PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe.
Alan Beroud, Chief Executive Officer of PKP SA and the PKP Group, said investment was continuing across both major cities and smaller communities with strong transport potential. He said the new station would create a comfortable, safe and accessible environment while integrating with recently upgraded railway infrastructure.
The project has a total value of PLN 8.2 million and will be delivered under a design-and-build contract. Design work will begin first, with construction scheduled to start during the first quarter of next year.
Located in Kliny on the Central Railway Line, Opoczno Południe serves PKP Intercity services to destinations including Kraków, Olsztyn, Szczecin, Vienna, Prague and Munich. According to the Office of Rail Transport, the station handled around 1,000 passengers each day during 2024, with approximately 30 trains stopping there daily.
