Knorr-Bremse will present its digital wayside and signalling technologies at InnoTrans 2026, showcasing how electronics, software and connectivity solutions can be applied to safety-critical trackside infrastructure. The company’s presentation, at Hall 1.2, Booth 250, is centred on its ElectroLogIXS platform, which forms the basis for the digitalisation of components such as interlocking, LED signals, switch controls, track circuits and railroad crossings.

Solutions already deployed across more than 40 countries

Knorr-Bremse said it already provides its signalling and wayside solutions to numerous infrastructure operators across more than 40 countries in the Americas, Europe and Australia, as well as selected markets in the Middle East, Africa and Asia. The company said it had significantly strengthened its signalling business over the past two years, broadening its portfolio of products and services and expanding into new markets, including the AAR segment.

Platform spans interlocking, trackside equipment and data analytics

The ElectroLogIXS platform is built on a unified hardware and software foundation and is being presented across three application areas. The first covers interlocking, where the ElectroLogIXS Vital Logic Controller handles high-precision train detection, train tracking and route control, which Knorr-Bremse said transforms traditional interlockings into intelligent control centres coordinating train movements across a network.

The second area covers signals, switches and railroad crossings. The ElectroLogIXS Object Controller is designed to control and monitor components including switch actuators, train detection systems, track circuits and axle counters on a common digital platform, which the company said supports modernisation of existing networks and informs performance, efficiency and maintenance planning. The presentation also includes the latest generation of LED Compact signals, which combine optical performance with interlocking compatibility and energy-efficient operation.

The third area covers data and analytics. The Data Acquisition Unit collects infrastructure data directly along the track, which is then analysed by the Wayside System Data Management Module, providing operators with insight into infrastructure condition to support predictive maintenance and early detection of malfunctions.

Knorr-Bremse is also presenting Rail TempEst, a technology that measures rail temperature in real time and provides early warnings of potential deformation or damage caused by extreme heat or cold, intended to allow operators to adjust train speed management and schedules and maintain operational stability under extreme conditions.

Upgrading rather than replacing existing infrastructure

Asked why operators are choosing to upgrade rather than replace existing signalling equipment, Knorr-Bremse said signalling represents a complex, long-term and safety-critical investment requiring rigorous certification and compliance with industry standards.

It said this was why it focused on solutions that allow customers to upgrade, modernise and digitalise existing infrastructure and trackside assets rather than replace them entirely, preserving compatibility with installed systems while unlocking the benefits of digitalisation and avoiding the cost, disruption and risk associated with building new infrastructure.

The company said the approach was intended to deliver enhanced safety and operational resilience, reduced downtime, optimised lifecycle costs and a faster path to introducing new capabilities, while keeping rail services running.
