Hafeet Rail has announced that its cross-border railway connecting Oman and the United Arab Emirates has reached 40 per cent completion, marking significant progress on one of the region’s most strategic infrastructure projects.

The 238-kilometre railway aims to create an integrated transport and logistics corridor, improving trade flows, strengthening supply chain resilience and enhancing economic integration between the two countries.

Cross-border rail corridor advances connectivity and logistics integration

Construction is progressing across key locations including Al Ain, Al Buraimi, Sohar and Wadi Al Jizzi, with the route spanning urban, industrial and mountainous terrain. The project requires complex engineering solutions, including tunnels, bridges and flood protection systems to ensure long-term operational resilience.

More than 27 million cubic metres of earthworks have been completed, alongside over 100,000 cubic metres of concrete works. Infrastructure development includes 80 major structures, 900 concrete piles and 130 box culverts currently under construction.

Abdulrahman Al Hatmi of Asyad Group said: “The pace of implementation reflects our shared commitment to launching this project and delivering passenger and freight services according to schedule.”

Work is also advancing on key logistics infrastructure in Sohar and Al Buraimi, supporting future connections to ports, industrial zones and logistics hubs, enabling efficient cross-border freight movement.

Ahmed AlMusawa AlHashemi of Hafeet Rail added: “Reaching the 40 per cent completion milestone reflects the strong foundations of this project.”

He also highlighted the project’s safety performance, stating: “We achieved ten million safe man-hours without any major injuries, reflecting the strength of our safety systems.”

The railway will incorporate advanced signalling, control and communication systems designed to meet international standards, ensuring interoperability between Omani and UAE networks while improving capacity and operational efficiency.

Once complete, the project will also support future passenger services, boosting tourism, business travel and social connectivity in line with national development strategies.

The Hafeet Rail corridor is expected to play a key role in reducing reliance on road transport, lowering emissions and supporting sustainable infrastructure development across the region.
