New daily Pacific Surfliner roundtrip improves connectivity and commuter flexibility between Los Angeles and California’s Central Coast.

LOSSAN Rail Corridor Agency has announced a new daily Pacific Surfliner roundtrip between Los Angeles and San Luis Obispo, expanding travel options along California’s Central Coast.
Delivered in partnership with Ventura County Transportation Commission and Santa Barbara County Association of Governments, the new service will begin on 4 May 2026.
New roundtrip strengthens Central Coast rail connectivity
The expansion increases Pacific Surfliner frequencies to six daily trips to Goleta and three daily services to San Luis Obispo, improving commuter flexibility and regional connections.
The additional roundtrip is designed to support peak weekday travel, offering passengers a reliable alternative to road transport while enhancing accessibility across the corridor.
Jason Jewell of LOSSAN said the service strengthens regional mobility and provides more convenient travel options for passengers.
For Ventura County, the new service improves links to the wider Southern California rail network, supporting both residents and commuters. Martin Erickson of Ventura County Transportation Commission said the expansion will make it easier to travel across the region during busy periods.
In Santa Barbara County, the additional service reflects continued investment in public transport, supported by local funding initiatives. Marjie Kirn of Santa Barbara County Association of Governments highlighted that the expansion delivers greater flexibility for commuting, education and everyday travel.
The Pacific Surfliner operates along a 351 mile coastal corridor connecting major regions including San Diego, Los Angeles and San Luis Obispo. The service provides onboard amenities such as Wi Fi, power outlets and comfortable seating, allowing passengers to work or relax while travelling.
With the introduction of this new roundtrip, passengers will benefit from increased schedule options for business, leisure and commuter journeys, further strengthening rail’s role in regional mobility.
