The new automated factory will replace RAILONE’s oldest production site and strengthen its manufacturing footprint in Germany.

RAILONE GmbH has announced plans to build a new concrete sleeper manufacturing plant in Nuremberg, reinforcing its long-term commitment to Germany’s railway supply chain and expanding production capacity for domestic and international markets.
The new facility will be constructed on Triester Strabe in the Nuremberg harbour area, where the company already operates a sleeper storage yard. Together, the storage area and new production site will cover approximately 42,000 square metres.
Once operational, the plant will be capable of producing up to 600,000 concrete sleepers each year, making it the most advanced manufacturing facility within the PCM RAILONE Group.
Modern facility to replace historic site
The investment marks a significant milestone for the company, as the new factory will eventually replace RAILONE’s existing production plant in Neumarkt.
Opened in 1954, the Neumarkt site is the company’s oldest concrete sleeper factory and will close once operations transfer to Nuremberg.
The new plant will feature a highly automated carousel-operated late demoulding production system designed to improve manufacturing efficiency, product quality and sustainability.
Verena Zahradnik said: “With this investment, we are sending a clear signal of our long-term commitment to the German market.”
She added: “In Nuremberg, we are establishing a high-performance, forward-looking site that will ensure a reliable supply of prestressed concrete sleepers to DB AG and our international customers.”
The facility will include storage capacity for around 200,000 sleepers, two 350-metre rail loading tracks and is expected to create between 50 and 70 jobs across production and administration.
RAILONE said the investment supports growing demand for modern railway infrastructure while strengthening Germany’s position as a manufacturing base for the European rail sector.
