Plasser & Theurer’s E³ programme – standing for Economic, Ecologic and Ergonomic – marks its tenth year at Innotrans 2026 this September.

Plasser & Theurer will present two new machines at Innotrans 2026 in Berlin, designed specifically to meet European normative requirements including fitment of the European Train Control System (ETCS).

The Austrian manufacturer will display the BallastMaster 410 ballast profiling machine and the UnimatExpress 2X-4x4 Dynamic continuous two-sleeper tamping machine on the outdoor tracks at the show, which runs from 22 to 25 September. Both machines were developed to address the specific regulatory requirements of the European market.

The UnimatExpress series is designed to offer planning reliability across varying levels of utilisation. The BallastMaster 410 brings all ballast management functions on board a single machine, with the aim of improving efficiency and reducing operating costs.

A decade of E³

Plasser & Theurer will also mark 10 years of its E³ programme at the show. Launched at Innotrans 2016, E³ – standing for Economic, Ecologic and Ergonomic – represented the company’s move towards alternative drive systems for track construction and maintenance machinery. What began as individually configured solutions has since developed into a scalable range for emission-free track maintenance. Swiss contractor Krebs Gleisbau has been using a Unimat 09-32/4S Dynamic E³ since that first showing at Innotrans 2016.

The company’s position is that machine electrification is one of several tools for reducing noise and CO₂ emissions, alongside machine selection and operational practice.

The BallastMaster 410 consolidates all ballast management functions on board a single machine and is among Plasser & Theurer’s new European-spec exhibits at Innotrans 2026.

TampingControl and retrofit

Plasser & Theurer will also present Plasser TampingControl, a system combining sensor-based real-time measurement, automatic tamping parameter adjustment and continuous ballast condition monitoring. Following national and international trials, the system is now operating on more than 30 tamping machines across a range of networks worldwide.

Also on display is the company’s retrofit programme, which Plasser & Theurer says can extend the working life of a machine by up to 15 years while keeping it within current authorisation specifications – allowing return to service immediately after completion. For wear-intensive components such as excavating chains and conveying channels on ballast cleaning machines, the company offers a refurbishment process using modern materials designed to reduce life cycle costs and CO₂ emissions.

Plasser & Theurer will be in Hall 26 (Stand 270) and outdoor display south (02/50, T2/50, T3/55).
