Overview

Improving Rail Signalling Resilience
Viper Innovations has taken proven technology developed for the harsh offshore environment and transferred this into products designed to improve the electrical integrity management of railway signalling power distribution networks. Our products are designed, developed, manufactured and tested in the UK and are available for global exportation.
CableGuardian for the Railways, aims to reduce maintenance costs and eliminate service affecting failures; caused by theft, vandalism or general degradation of signalling power cables, improving the resilience of the Signalling Power Systems.
We are active members of the Rail Industry Association (RIA) and Rail Alliance and are RISQS verified. Our innovative technology has been recognised across the Rail Industry, including being awarded the 2019 Rail Innovations Award and 2018 IET Innovation Award for CableGuardian.

Network Rail Approved – Tier 1 Cable Monitoring System
CableGuardian – is the only Network Rail approved cable monitoring system that offers adherence to Tier 3, Tier 2 & Tier 1 of the Network Rail standard NR/L2/SIGELP/27725 – Insulation Monitoring and Fault Location Systems for use on Signalling Power Systems.
This unique product provides continuous monitoring of live signalling power supply systems at a cable section level without the need to power down the system, reducing the need for manual trackside fault-finding, reducing maintenance costs and ‘boots on ballast’.
The CableGuardian system is the technological alternative to the 5 yearly manual cable testing requirement in NR/L2/ SIGELP/50000. Empowering the rail industry to move from the uncertainty of periodic testing, to a real-time condition based approach.
Available for Immediate Order, Network Rail Certificate Number: PA05/06538 or contact us directly on: 01275 787878 / [email protected]

Key Benefits:

  • Fewer boots on ballast fault finding and cable testing
  • Quickly and accurately locate cable faults and cable theft
  • User friendly web portal for fault diagnosis and location
  • Analytics facilitate proactive rather than reactive maintenance
  • Permits a move from a frequency based inspection regime to one driven by actual asset condition and performance
  • Reducing risks to trackside personnel and the general public
  • Available for AC Electrified, DC Electrified and Non-Electrified Rail Routes.

The CableGuardian Web Portal
Results and information from the analytics package are made available via the CableGuardian web portal which is accessible from any internet connected device using the necessary secure login information. The portal has an intuitive user interface – results can be seen at a glance and historic trends of integrity data can be easily produced by the user. The portal is also designed to be fully compatible with the Network Rail Intelligent Infrastructure.

Fault Alert & Escalation Process
During a fault event alarms can be sent to users via configurable notification options, including the web portal, email, SMS text message and automated telephone voice message.

Designed for Reliability
CableGuardian is fully Class II compliant and has been rigorously tested by a third-party test house to demonstrate compliance with the relevant standard (IEC 61140). The system has been fully operation on multiple Network Rail routes since 2018.

  • Fault tolerant system
  • Units interchangeable with simple serial number update
  • Environmentally robust
  • Cloud based data
  • Secured with modern internet security techniques
  • Proven Trackside Technology Since 2018

Install or Upgrade in Under an Hour
CableGuardian has been designed to be quick and easy to fit. Full installation or upgrades to your existing Tier 3 IMD can be completed in under an hour.
The unit is simply fixed in a convenient position within the PSP or location case using pre-terminated connection harness ensuring that connections are effortless.
The measurement coils are supplied with mounting brackets and have integral arrow indicators to show which direction they should be installed relative to the incoming / outgoing feeder cables. The harness also facilitates live connection with a safe system of work (SSOW) as the harness can be easily crimped and terminated to the 650V before installing connectors into the unit.
