The Eress organisation has announced today that the Finnish Transport Agency has officially become the fifth partner of Eress.

“Getting Finland on-board is a milestone for the partnership,” says Terje Stømer, Chairman of the Eress Board of Directors. “Other European countries, like Austria and the Netherlands and Railway Undertakings, like SNCF and Virgin Trains, are also testing our Erex solution. In total, more than 3,000 traction units across Europe are using Erex system.”

“The Eress organisation obtained an Award from the International Union of Railways (UIC) for the development of Erex system earlier this year,” adds Stømer. “We are very proud of this international recognition and the fact that new partners, like Finland, are joining Eress.”

Erex is basically a system that allows managing and billing real consumed energy,” explains Dyre Martin Gulbrandsen, Eress Director. “Infrastructure managers get allocated and sorted consumed energy data from Erex. With this, they can send an accurate bill to each of the train operators moving on their tracks. For train operators, Erex means paying only for real consumption. They also use Erex information to learn on energy consumption patterns and how consumption can be reduced. With Erex, train operators can reduce up to 30% on energy costs.”

Eress is a partnership between Banedanmark (Rail Net Denmark), Infrabel (Belgian Railway Infrastructure Manager), Jernbaneverket (Norwegian National Rail Administration), Trafikverket (Swedish Transport Administration) and Liikennevirasto (Finnish Transport Agency). Eress is a non-profit organisation jointly owned by its partners, committed to the development, implementation and supply of the Erex energy settlement solution.
