Birmingham based Transys Projects Ltd plans to expand its presence in the UK and International Rail Markets where the company is currently providing turnkey refurbishment, maintenance support, consultancy and a broad range of enhancements to passenger trains and locomotives.

The company is delighted to announce that it has been awarded a contract to install a GSM-R Ready solution to the East Midlands Trains HST Locomotives following a competitive tendering process. The project will be delivered at East Midlands Trains’ Leeds-based Neville Hill depot.

GSM-R can be installed in many different ways including dual fit where both the previous system and GSM-R systems are operational, replacement where the CSR or NRN radio is removed and replaced or GSM-R ready. In the case of GSM-R ready a defined scope of work is installed and tested then capital equipment is removed until the time approaches to go live on GSM-R. The GSM-R ready solution enables early economic progress to be made on the massive programme of installing GSM-R across the entire UK Fleet.

Transys Projects have installed circa 350 GSM-R cab mobiles to date and have undertaken some 43 bespoke designs for GSM-R installation. They have also performed over 40 “first of class” installations performed to prove the design and finalise materials requirements.

Kevin Lane Managing Director of Transys Projects said, “We are delighted to win this order which follows on from a previous order to install forward facing CCTV to these vehicles. Our ability to win this work is not only due to our competitive pricing but due to the quality of artisans we provide, delivered through a safety conscious management process that is underpinned by our RISAS certification”.

Brian West, Head of Engineering Services for East Midlands Trains, added: “We are pleased to be working with Transys on this important project to prepare our HSTs for the launch of GSM-R next year. These trains are in the process of going through a multi-million pound refurbishment, which is also being carried out at our Neville Hill depot, and this project will help to ensure we have improved HSTs which are fully equipped for the roll-out of GSM-R.”
