The challenge?
Combining lightweight with stiffness, these floor panels are over 10 meters long. Over SMTC’s 400,000m² of floor in operation around the world, Crossrail floors will be the biggest ever manufactured and will allow a very fast assembly onto the car-body of the train. The required production capacity is met thanks to significant investments in new tooling, especially with a rotating jig, handling equipment and bespoke transportation racks. It is a very high potential project for SMTC, we thank Bombardier Transportation for their trust and are very happy to move forward together.
