Irish Rail complete seat cover upgrade with Muirhead leather
By choosing Muirhead leather over a fabric alternative, Irish Rail have opted for sustainable durability, comfort, hygiene and a market-leading warranty with a €3.2m cost saving for their seat upgrades.
A first-class impression
We completed one of Europe’s largest refurbishment programmes with Irish Rail (Iarnród Éireann). The project included the refurbishment of 234 carriages, with around 15,500 seat covers upgraded with Muirhead low carbon, high technical performance genuine leather. Muirhead was selected for its long-term cost benefits, durability, flame resistance, comfort, and hygienic qualities performed versus fabric materials.
Aisling Norton, the Continuous Improvement Specialist at Irish Rail, shares how investing in Muirhead leather, contributed to commercial gains. “Over 12 years, fabric seats would cost €5.8 million, including cleaning. Leather costs €2.6 million, generating a massive saving of €3.2 million.”
It was a pleasure to work with the team and create the potential for a €3.2 million saving by choosing our leather over a fabric alternative.
