Invensys Rail has been awarded a contract by Network Rail for the Bowesfield re-control project. This is the first project to be awarded under the Network Rail Framework Contract in the Central East Region where Invensys is the nominated secondary contractor.

The scope of the project includes the re-control of the existing Bowesfield area, as well as the relocking and re-control of the Urlay Nook signal box area onto Bowesfield. The level crossings at Urlay Nook and Allen’s West will be converted to manually controlled barrier crossings, with CCTV and object detection respectively, controlled and monitored from Bowesfield. All the works are scheduled for commissioning in October 2013.

Commenting on the contract, Rob Cairns, Invensys Rail’s Delivery Director, Central East, said: “This news builds on a number of recent successes in the region, including the award of the Great Northern Great Eastern (GNGE) and Sudforth Lane contracts and reflects not only the quality of our technical solutions, but also our record of successful project management and delivery”.

The Framework Contracts were awarded by Network Rail in January 2012, with Invensys appointed primary contractor in the Scotland, Central West and Wales & West areas and secondary contractor in the Central East, Wessex, Surrey & Sussex, Great Western Main Line Inner and Great Western Mainline Outer areas. The Frameworks run to the end of Control Period 4 in March 2014, when there will be an option for Network Rail to continue with each agreement on an annual basis for a further five years – that is, to the end of Control Period 5.
