South West Trains has awarded a major contract to “R2P” Rail & Road Protec GmbH to provide the saloon and forward facing CCTV for their class 158 and 159 fleets.

CA-4-MinidomkameraSouth West Trains is part of the Stagecoach Group, an international transport group with bus and rail operations in UK and North America. South West Trains operates around 1600 trains a day in the South and south west of England. South West Trains considers the safety and security of customers’ on-board trains to be an important part of the customer journey experience.

R2P has worked closely with South West Trains and Porterbrook Leasing Company teams to advise the best CCTV solution for these trains. Balvinder Chana, R2P Director UK Operations commented: “We are pleased that after a successful trial South West Trains has decided to install R2P saloon and forward facing CCTV system on both class 158 and 159 fleets in total 112 vehicles. Over a 3G real time connection the South West Trains staff will be able to view the live and recorded footage remotely from the train. This is result of a close working partnership between R2P, South West Trains and Porterbrook teams. We are pleased to receive this order; it will provide South West Trains customers travelling on these fleets a safe and secure travelling environment.”

Commenting on the contract award, Ulrik Rasmussen, Managing Director R2P said “this is a further important milestone for R2P on the UK rail market to strengthen our position as the strongest supplier of hybrid CCTV solutions on the UK market. R2P is highly committed to the UK rail market consequently we have opened a UK office in spring 2011.”
