Austrian rail freight operator Wiener Lokalbahnen Cargo has signed an agreement with Bombardier Transportation for the supply of TRAXX AC3 Last Mile locomotives.
Wiener Lokalbahnen Cargo has signed a contract for the supply of three Bombardier TRAXX AC3 Last Mile locomotives. The contract also includes a full maintenance and servicing agreement for eight years. Furthermore, there is an option to purchase three additional locomotives and to extend the maintenance contract for a further 24 years.

The Last Mile functionality of the vehicle enables the operator to shunt the locomotives on catenary-free lines by using an additional diesel engine and battery. The locomotives are powered by Bombardier MITRAC traction converters, saving an extra diesel locomotive for Wiener Lokalbahnen Cargo.
Commenting on the order, Christian Diewald, Managing Director, Bombardier Transportation Austria GmbH, said: “We are very pleased that we could win Wiener Lokalbahnen Cargo as an additional customer for the TRAXX AC3 locomotives and that we now have already placed the second order for locomotives in Austria. With the agreement now concluded, Wiener Lokalbahnen Cargo have chosen a solution that ensures maximum flexibility and reliability.”
The new TRAXX locomotives will operate in Austria and Germany from 2017.
