The Finnish Transport Agency is presenting two big construction projects for the possible constructors and financiers in Brussels on 19 May 2010. The projects are the second track between Kokkola and Ylivieska and the motorway constructing of the highway 7 as part of the international E18 road.

A second track with a length of approximately 76.5km will be constructed between Kokkola and Ylivieska in 2011–2014
The second track project is one of the biggest railway projects in Finland in recent years. Between 2011 and 2014, a 76.5kilometre-long second track will be built between the cities of Kokkola and Ylivieska. “At the same time, the existing track will be renewed and all the level crossings will be eliminated. Thanks to the second track, the capacity of the busy passenger and freight traffic line will be improved,” says Investment Director Kari Ruohonen from the Finnish Transport Agency. The total construction cost is €263 million.
The Kokkola–Ylivieska project will be implemented using a Public Private Partnership (PPP) model for the first time in Finland’s rail network. In this model, in addition to planning and construction, the service provider is responsible for track maintenance and funding for a set period. In the second track project the Finnish Transport Agency is looking to conclude a contract for 20–30 years. The total value of the PPP contract is estimated to be €660 million. The Finnish Transport Agency’s road show will introduce the two Public Private Partnership projects for those interested in becoming a service provider for the projects. In the road show, the directors from the Finnish Transport Agency will tell about the projects. In addition, there will be experts telling about the Finnish contractors and the financial situation in Finland.
