Stockholmståg, the company operating commuter trains in the greater Stockholm area, in Sweden, has awarded Alstom Transport with a maintenance contract worth €107 million over a five-year period, for the maintenance of a fleet of 135 suburban trains.

The contract includes the full maintenance of 71 Coradia Nordic trains Alstom has already supplied to Storstockholms Lokaltrafik (SL) and the maintenance of 12 Coradia Nordic trains scheduled for delivery in 2012 . The deal also covers the maintenance of 52 older types of commuter trains manufactured by ASEA.

Optimization of maintenance regime and presence of corrective technicians in traffic care points will improve fleet availability and performance. Besides, an Alstom fleet management team will work in the customer control center using TrainTracer. The addition of TrainTracer to a train’s control system makes it possible to generate by radio transmission an almost continuous flow of data on the condition of major components. Informed in real time or upon request, technicians can analyse and anticipate eventual problems or diagnose breakdowns. The increased use of predictive and preventive maintenance significantly increases the effective availability and profitability of fleets.

Alstom’s maintenance services are supplied by a team of more than 100 people in three local depots based in Bro, Sodertalje and Alvsjo. Building on its experience of taking over existing maintenance services, Alstom will put a special emphasis on the integration of the current maintenance teams through training programs and exchanges of best practices.

“This order underlines confidence shown in Alstom and the quality of our work. We are aiming to be a benchmark for the maintenance industry and to deliver a modern top quality service to Stockholmståg”, declares Lars Kleppe, Director of Alstom Transport for Nordic Countries and Baltic States.
