Bombardier Transportation has been awarded, at the end of December 2010, a further major contract in Latvia, for its BOMBARDIER INTERFLO 200 solution for the ‘Second Railway Track Construction, Skrivery – Krustpils’ project. The contract, with a value of 9.25 million euro ($ 12.3 million US), is awarded by a consortium of civil works companies in Latvia, led by Skonto Buve, for delivery to LDZ (Latvian Railways).

This is the third major signalling contract for Bombardier in Latvia, where an INTERFLO 200 solution is currently being delivered on sections of the 200 km East-West Corridor, Stage 2 project. The first major contract awarded was to deliver a BOMBARDIER EBI Lock 950 computer-based interlocking (CBI) and EBI Screen control room system at the Riga- Tornakalns station in the capital city, which was completed in 2001, and was the first CBI in operation in the Baltic States.

The project includes the design, installation, test and commissioning of the INTERFLO 200 solution for approximately 100 km of double-track with five stations, and forms part of the new second track on the Venstpils – Riga – Krustpils line in the main East – West corridor, which will ensure cargo transit between the EU and Russia and add significant speed and safety improvement to the existing operations. Bombardier’s scope comprises the latest EBI Lock 950 CBI Release 4, EBI Screen 2000 control room and EBI Gate 2000 level crossing systems. The solution will be produced by Bombardier’s sites in Sweden, Finland, Poland and Russia and is scheduled to enter commercial operation in 2014.

Anders Lindberg, President of Bombardier Transportation’s Rail Control Solutions, commented: “Our third major contract award in Latvia, this new project is an excellent endorsement of Bombardier’s overall position in Latvia, the Baltic States and the wider region as a leading supplier of signalling technology. With systems already in operation in Latvia, Lithuania, Slovakia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Russia, we are delighted that Bombardier continues to contribute to the modernisation of major railway routes in the region.”

INTERFLO 200 signalling solutions are typically used for busy, mainline networks, where headways are reduced and higher safety levels are required. INTERFLO 200 can be complemented with a national automatic train protection (ATP) system and can later be upgraded to European Rail Traffic Management system (ERTMS) operation. INTERFLO 200 has been installed extensively across the world in countries including Brazil, Bulgaria, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Italy, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, Russia, Slovakia,Spain, Sweden and Thailand.

Bombardier Transportation’s Rail Control portfolio covers the whole range of BOMBARDIER CITYFLO mass transit solutions, from manual to fully automatic systems as well as communication-based systems. It also provides INTERFLO mainline solutions, from conventional systems to ERTMS level 2 systems. Bombardier solutions encompass acomplete palette of wayside and onboard products.
