Double-deck coaches ordered by Deutsche Bahn for regional express service…

Bombardier

Bombardier Transportation will supply an additional 18 TWINDEXX Vario coaches with regional train equipment to Deutsche Bahn AG (DB AG) to meet increasing passenger demand on the DB Regio Nord network in Germany. The order, valued at approximately 34 million euro ($44 million US), is part of an existing framework agreement signed in December 2008. DB AG previously ordered 135 of the latest generation variable double-deck coaches in January 2011 for intercity service as well as three motorised cab cars for its regional network.

The 18 new double-deck coaches of generation 2010 with low-floor entry will operate in the network “Kreuz Bremen”. They will complement existing vehicles and boost capacity further. DB AG plans to expand services on its regional express lines Hannover – Nienburg – Bremen – Emden – Norddeich as well as Osnabrück – Diepholz – Bremen – Bremerhaven. The new coaches are designed for a maximum speed of 160 km/h.

The lower deck of the TWINDEXX Vario multipurpose centre coaches can be converted to accommodate bicycles in one third, two thirds or along the entire deck. The upper deck offers specially designed seating areas for families with children. The air conditioned trains also feature entrances with sliding steps.

The safety of passengers is increased thanks to the adoption of new crash requirements. In addition, an innovative LED-lighting system inside the coaches is both energy saving and good for passenger comfort, with the indirect lighting creating a pleasant ambience.

The new coaches will be built at Bombardier’s site in Görlitz. The bogies are manufactured at Bombardier’s site in Siegen. Bombardier has already delivered more than 2,000 doubledeck coaches to Deutsche Bahn since 1990.
