Women in Rail has announced the launch of its search for the ‘20 Rising Stars of UK Rail’, an initiative to honour women in the sector.

Women in Rail, a charity organisation aiming to improve diversity in the UK rail industry, has announced the launch of its search for the ‘20 Rising Stars of UK Rail’, an initiative to honour women in the sector who are helping to change the face of the rail industry.
Women in Rail was founded in 2012 and provides networking opportunities and support for all women working within the rail sector, devise initiatives aimed at promoting rail as an attractive career choice and encourages the younger generations to consider a career in the rail industry.
Candidates
Successful shortlisted candidates have to be within the first five years of their careers and will have made a significant impression on their colleagues, as well as demonstrating outstanding potential in shaping the future of the industry.
The candidates will be setting a positive example for younger generations, inspiring them to follow in their footsteps, and will have already achieved notable success in their careers already.
“It is fundamental that we change perceptions of the industry and increase the number of young women entering a career in rail”
“During a time that rail is experiencing strong growth, with new initiatives including HS2, the Thameslink Programme, Crossrail and major upgrades of London Underground on the horizon, it is fundamental that we change perceptions of the industry and increase the number of young women entering a career in rail,” said Adeline Ginn, founder of Women in Rail. “Key to this is highlighting the fantastic young female role models that the industry offers and recognising and celebrating the impact that they have on our day-to-day lives.”
Judging will take place by the Women in Rail committee (which includes Anna Walker, previously of The Office of Rail and Road and Loraine Martins of Network Rail) and nominations (which are already open) will close on 5 May. To make a nomination, click here.
