Greenbrier and Amsted Digital launch bogie monitoring initiative for European freight

Greenbrier Leasing Europe is rolling out bogie-mounted monitoring technology across new European freight wagons as part of its partnership with Amsted Digital.

Greenbrier Leasing Europe (GBXLE) has partnered with Amsted Digital Solutions SAS (Amsted Digital) to launch a collaborative bogie monitoring initiative aimed at advancing condition-based maintenance across the European rail freight sector.

The initiative includes the installation of Amsted Digital’s IQ Series™ gateways on all new GBXLE fleet wagons. The gateway is mounted directly on the bogie—a configuration unique in the industry—enabling GBXLE to receive critical information about wagon running gear,

including wheel slide and wheel fault reports. In a second phase, the programme will expand to include bearing diagnostics delivered through Amsted Digital’s over-the-air upgrade capability, eliminating the need for additional hardware retrofits or service interruptions.

Customer benefits

By leveraging this technology, operators can access proactive wheelset health insights that help keep the fleet running at its best, alongside intelligent shock detection for immediate awareness of potential damage.

The system is designed to maximise wagon availability through smarter, data-driven maintenance planning and optimised maintenance spending through targeted, condition-based interventions. Furthermore, the system strengthens operational safety with significantly lowered derailment risk.
