Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) have announced that construction on the Silver Line Regional Rail Project will begin on 18 November 2019. The 26 mile line between Plano, Texas, and Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport will be undertaken by design-builder company Archer Western Herzog.

Initial work on the project will consist of two main tasks – the removal of the abandoned rail along the DART Right-of-Way from the Dallas North Tollway in Addison to west of Synergy Park Road in Richardson; and utility relocation along Hillcrest Road from north of McCallum Boulevard to south of Wester Way.

Other work includes the demolition and stacking of existing rail components and the hauling of materials to another location.

The project’s main purpose is to provide passenger rail connections and service that will improve mobility, accessibility, and system linkages to major employment, population, and activity centres. The Silver Line will aim to be in operation by 2022, with 30 minute peak and 60 minute off peak services.
