Bombardier Transportation has been awarded an order to deliver the BOMBARDIER INTERFLO 200 mainline signalling solution for the Albacete to La Encina section of the Madrid to Valencia – Alicante line in the Castilla la Mancha Region of Spain.

The contract, valued at approximately 39 million euros ($53 million US), is the highest value contract ever signed with ADIF, the Spanish rail infrastructure administrator.

This contract strengthens Bombardier’s Rail Control Solutions activity in the Iberian peninsula, where its world state-of-the-art solutions are already a preferred choice of a great majority of metro operators such as those in Madrid, Seville, Bilbao, Barcelona and Porto.

Bombardier will deliver the signalling solution for the upgrade of the approximately 90 km line. The scope will include Bombardier’s globally installed BOMBARDIER EBI Lock 950 computer-based interlocking (CBI), EBI Screen local control centre and EBI track train detection systems, as well as modification of existing systems, equipment and structures.

This project will be delivered in five phases aligned with the construction milestones of this new line, over the next 12 months.

Anders Lindberg, President, Rail Control Solutions, Bombardier Transportation, said: “We are very pleased to be awarded this major new contract for our INTERFLO 200 solution. With this system already well-proven in Spain, this order is further testimony to the customer‘s confidence in our technology.”

José Caparros, Bombardier Chief Country Representative for Spain also commented: “This new contract is a signficant addition to our extensive portfolio of contracts and deliveries in Spain and we look forward to continuing to work together with ADIF to contribute to the development of the Spanish rail network.”

INTERFLO 200 signalling solutions are typically used for busy, mainline networks, where headways are reduced and higher safety levels are required. INTERFLO 200 can be complemented with a national automatic train protection (ATP) system and can later be upgraded to European Rail Traffic Management system (ERTMS) operation. INTERFLO 200 has been installed extensively across the world in countries including Brazil, Bulgaria, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, Russia, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden and Thailand.

Bombardier Transportation’s Rail Control Solutions (RCS) portfolio covers the whole range of BOMBARDIER CITYFLO mass transit solutions, from manual to fully automatic systems as well as communication-based systems. It also provides INTERFLO mainline solutions, from conventional systems to ERTMS level 2 systems. Bombardier solutions encompass a complete palette of wayside and onboard products.
