CP to establish Montreal multi-commodity terminal

Canadian Pacific (CP) has announced the establishment of a new multi-commodity transload terminal that will offer transportation and distribution services from CP’s existing Côte Saint-Luc yard in Montreal.

TYT Group, a Quebec-based freight transportation service provider, will be responsible for the management and operation of the new terminal, offering reliable multi-commodity transload services and logistics solutions to customers in key urban centres along the east coast.

Canadian Pacific Executive Vice-President and Chief Marketing Officer, John Brooks, said: “We continue to leverage our strategic land holdings and invest in transloads across the network to create additional connections, improve service and provide our customers with new end markets. With a great supply chain enabler like TYT Group, this project enhances our footprint in the Montreal area by building capacity and expanding our ability to provide customers with value beyond rail, through trucking and transload services.”

Construction will be undertaken in multiple phases – phase one involves the creation of a new 118,000ft2 rail-served facility designed to assist in receiving, unloading, carrying and delivering of rail traffic, and is expected to be completed by June 2020.

Over 4,000ft of existing and adjacent track surrounds the facility, making the chosen location ideal for indoor and outdoor transloading operations. The interior contains track infrastructure with the capabilities to accommodate over 18 railcars, able to protect customer products from elements year-round. The terminal will further extend CP’s reach to markets not directly served by rail.

Partick Turcotte, President and CEO of TYT Group, said: “Group TYT is proud to collaborate with CP to bring this unique project to Montreal. Strategically located inside CP’s Côte Saint-Luc yard, this multi-commodity transload will offer customers better optionality and more consistent service overall. Our agreement with CP is built on service, reliability and trust and we look forward to working together to provide long-term value to our customers.”
