Railpool purchases 20 multisystem locomotives from Siemens Mobility

Siemens Mobility is set to deliver 20 Vectron MS multisystem locomotives to one of Europe’s leading rail vehicle rental companies, Railpool, beginning in March 2022.

The locomotives are intended for service in 11 countries along the Eastern Corridor, which includes: Germany, Austria, Poland, Croatia, Czechia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Hungary, Bulgaria, Romania and Serbia. As it stands, Railpool’s current fleet is more than 400 locomotives however, once deliveries of this first order for multisystem locomotives from Siemens Mobility are completed, Railpool will have a total of 53 Siemens locomotives.

The Vectron MS locomotives, purchased by Railpool, have a maximum output of 6.4 megawatts and a top speed of 200km/h. They are also further equipped with the required national train control systems, as well as the European Train Control System (ETCS). 

As of 2021, Siemens Mobility has sold over 1,100 Vectrons to a total of 56 customers. These locomotives have accumulated more than 450 million km of fleet in service and are certified for operating in countries such as: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden, Switzerland and Turkey.
