Etihad Rail, the operator of the UAE’s National Rail Network, has signed one of the largest commercial partnerships for Stage Two of the UAE’s National Rail Project, with Western Bainoona Group.
Running for 1.8km and part of Package D on Stage Two of the Etihad Rail network, the tunnel cuts through the Hajar Mountain towards the emirate of Fujairah.
Following a visit to the site and a review of the project updates, the Chairman of Etihad Rail has inaugurated track laying at the railhead in Saih Shuaib.
The agreement is part of Etihad Rail’s long-term digital innovation strategy and will enable the streamlining of service provision in the logistics sector through digital solutions.
The partnership between Etihad Rail and the UAE's Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure will ensure robust administrative and evaluation procedures, alongside informed issuances of permits and licenses.
The agreement focuses on four key areas of cooperation and will expand the close relationship between Etihad Rail and the Saudi Railway Company.
In line with its commitment to preserve the diverse natural heritage of the UAE, Etihad Rail has relocated a range of wildlife species from the Misanad Protected Area.
Upon completion, the railway will redefine logistics and transport in the region, providing a modern, safe, efficient and sustainable mode of transport that will connect all regions of the UAE to its neighbouring GCC countries.
The first batch of graduates will now work in roles within Etihad Rail DB including train captain, traffic controller, locomotive and railway maintenance technician, and railway systems technician.
