The Community of European Railway and Infrastructure Companies (CER) has elected a new management committee to oversee the development of the European railways and ensure the promotion of "sustainable mobility policies".

The ‘open’ nature of stations and trains continually make them targets for terrorist attacks. But with project SHERPA, coordinated by the UIC, key players in the railway sector are coming together and focus on various actions that will help railways cope better with present and future threats.
An efficient CEF will provide vital funding to rail and help to further increase its contribution to the EU’s 2030 climate targets.

Libor Lochman, Executive Director of the Community of European Railway and Infrastructure Companies (CER), writes that 2018 saw mixed results for transport legislation, but there’s great hope for 2019.
Rail is the most sustainable and energy-efficient low-emission transport mode and it plays a crucial role in the decarbonisation of the transport sector.
Regulations from the EU, that the railways then implement, need to be passenger-centric at all times to ensure rail is an attractive mode of transport.
Rail has a central role to play in providing climate-friendly transport and helping Europe meet its sustainability challenges, and remains the best solution for promoting safe, clean and green mobility.
The CER is calling upon policymakers to better reflect the importance of the digital transformation of rail in the new CEF proposal by increasing the allocated budget.
